Black walnut · sawn and dried in Central New York

Black walnut slabs and lumber

Dark, straight-grained and easy to work, walnut is the wood most people picture when they think of a slab table. We saw it from local logs and dry it in our kiln.

What it’s like

Chocolate-brown heartwood with cream-colored sapwood at the edges. It machines cleanly, takes an oil finish beautifully and is stable once it’s dry. Crotch and burl pieces carry the wildest figure.

Many people keep the sapwood on a live-edge slab for the contrast. Others want it all dark. Tell us which you like.

What we saw it into

Live-edge slabs for dining tables, desks and bar tops, including book-matched pairs. Boards for furniture and cabinets. Mantels.

Got a walnut tree?

A walnut that had to come down is worth having sawn. Walnut grows in yards and fencerows all over Central New York, and a single good log can make a table and then some. See custom sawing, or call with the diameter and length.
